Study Counselling at Bower Place

Bower Place College offers two courses designed to improve practitioners’ skills: a 12-month Diploma of Counselling and a two-year Graduate Diploma in Family Therapy & Systemic Practice. Each course provides graduates with a nationally recognised qualification.
Both courses give students practical clinical experience, working directly with clients in the Bower Place Complex Needs Clinic (CNC). This practical learning is run either once a week or in one-week blocks depending on the student’s location.
The CNC is a teaching clinic where clients see our practitioners for a low fee and students observe client sessisons in a separate room, and participate in clients’ therapy sessions. As a student, you will either observe client sessions a separate room, completing tasks given by your lecturers, or be in the counselling room to support the practitioner. This is a unique way to learn as you then have the opportunity to review your session and receive feedback from your peers and our practitioners.
All practical sessions are closely supervised by professional practitioners and utilise the Bower Place Method for conducting therapy. Course materials and theoretical readings for both courses are delivered online, allowing students to control the pace and structure of their learning.
