Interested in working with and supporting families?
Gain skills and knowledge in an industry based setting working directly with clients and highly skilled practitioners. The Diploma of Family Intake and Support Work is one of several new qualifications created in response to changes in the family law system and the development of new services for families. It provides practical on the job skills and specialised knowledge working in a clinical setting with highly experienced family therapists.
Entry Requirements
Entry into the Diploma is through direct application to the campus (See below for application details). The recommended pathway is through a Certificate IV in Community Services Work.
Please note the Certificate IV in Community Services Work is available at Bower Place with application through TAFE SA Port Adelaide.
Applications will also be considered from applicants who have other related Community Services qualifications at the Certificate IV or higher levels and/or relevant experience in the community services industry.
Length of Course and Commencement
12 months full or part time equivalent including clinical work in the CNC and a Community Services field placement.
There are two intakes into this course each year - February and July
Location
This course is conducted through TAFE SA Port Adelaide, with the practical component completed at Bower Place which is located at Level 2, 55 Gawler Place, ADELAIDE.

Recognition of prior learning
Learning is a process that takes place in many different arenas and is not restricted to formal training. Participants have the opportunity to receive some recognition for their demonstrable skills gained either on or off the job through recognition of prior learning (RPL).
What will I learn?
This qualification provides the necessary skills and knowledge for workers employed in services that provide relationship support and interventions for families and/or couples. This may be through a variety of service types such as family relationship support programs, telephone advice, family mediation and counselling services.

3. Legal and Ethical Requirements in a Family Law Environment
4. Specialist communication skills
5. Cultural diversity
6. Counselling Process and Practice
7. Reflective Practice
8. Occupational Health and Safety
Assessments
Assessments are competency based and will include a variety of practical and written tasks designed to offer maximum opportunity for participants to demonstrate their learning. There are no formal examinations.
