Bower College offers the Diploma in Counselling which provides students with a Nationally Recognised Qualification. All course material and theory is delivered online allowing students to control the pace and structure of their learning, while choosing when and where they study. The practical component of the course is run either once a week, or in a block, depending on the students requirements.

This course is innovative and unique in that it provides students with practical client experience in specialised clinical practice within the Bower Place Complex needs Clinic (CNC). This practical unit is ongoing throughout the course and allows students to apply the theory of counselling learned in the online component to real life counselling sessions. All sessions are closely supervised by professional practitioners.

To receive your qualification in Counselling, you must successfully complete 17 units of competency. The topics offered include: Facilitating the Counselling Relationship, Supporting Clients in the Decision Making Process and Responding to Clients at Risk. Students must also complete 90 hours of practical time in the CNC working alongside our practitioners.

There are two ways students can choose to complete the course:

Option 1: 11 months completing the online work while attending the CNC each Monday evening  from 5 - 7:30pm

Option 2: 6 months completing the online work while attending the CNC each Monday evening from 5 - 7:30 pm and a 5 day internship.

What are the entry requirements?

Candidates seeking entry to this course must provide evidence of one of the following:

- A certificate IV in a relevant field OR

- Relevant vocational experience in counselling

When does the course begin?

We have 2 intakes throughout the year. The first intake is in the first semester (Feburary) and second intake is in the second semester (July). If you think you may have missed the starting date, please give us a call as we may be able to be flexible for you.

What can I expect from the Bower Place Complex Needs Clinic?

The CNC is a teaching clinic where clients come in to see our practitioners at a low fee and allow students to observe and participate in their session. As a student, you will either be observing from a separate room completing tasks given by our lecturers, or participating in the room with the practitioner working with the client.  You would be required to take notes, work towards the clients goals, and complete case notes. This is a very unique way to learn as you are then given the opportunity to review your session and receive feedback from your peers and our practitioners.

What is the cost of the course?  $3,700.00*

* Please note that it is a requirement that we receive a $500.00 non-refundable deposit before the commencement of the course. Please note that a 10% late fee will apply if fees are not paid in full within 14 days of completion of the course. Certificates of completion will not be issued until all assignments and fees are up to date.
